I must admit I've been staring at my computer screen even more than usual during this pandemic. I have watched countless YouTube and Facebook videos over the past two months, and there is always a TV show playing in our house. Right now Megan has been watching Gilmore Girls from beginning to end (I may watch it with her from time to time).
When the Safer at Home order first went into effect I invited all of us to think of healthy habits that we could create while at home. I hope you've been able to form some kind of routine during this time. I know that I've wasted a lot of time by watching mindless videos, but I have also found a gold mine of videos done by The Bible Project.
This was one of the resources I offered in a previous post. We have been using them for our Wednesday night formation class that focuses on their series "How to Read The Bible." I think they have some of the best Bible resources on the internet -- which has a lot of resources, I know.
Sometimes it's hard to know who to trust when it comes to biblical interpretation. Preachers have this challenge when picking out a new commentary. For me, I appreciate people who are willing to be critical and thoughtful about the biblical text while also displaying a love and respect for it as well. You can do both! Asking serious questions about the text and being inspired by it are not mutually exclusive.
If you are someone just wants to get your feet wet, or you have questions about certain aspects of the Bible then I highly recommend The Bible Project. They gear much of their content for a general audience, but an audience that wants to wrestle with the text. It's clear that they love the Bible and they've done their homework.
Put it on while you're folding laundry or cooking dinner, but don't have you're notepad too far away. I have made so many notes in my Bible just from the two videos below. They will blow your mind.
A Quarantine Rule of Thumb: If you're going to watch something then occasionally watch something that will feed your soul.
If you want to go deeper on a certain subject then check out their podcast. The video below is amazing.
